Medal raises $13 million
Medal, a startup that is known for its video game clipping product, has raised $13 million at a valuation of $333 million from several investors, including Horizons Ventures, OMERS Ventures, Peak6 and Arcadia Investment Partners. The company also unveiled Highlight, a new cross-platform desktop app that acts as a contextual AI assistant for users. The app captures the content on your screen and lets you ask questions to a large language model (LLM) based on that context. We advised Medal in this equity financing round.
Aquabattery secures €6m seed investment
Aquabattery, a Dutch climate tech startup developing a saltwater long duration energy storage (LDES) solution, has closed a €6 million seed investment round. The round was led by EIT InnoEnergy and supported by InnovationQuarter, Invest-NL, Init Power, and a group of business angels. Aquabattery is developing a novel flow battery that can store clean electricity in table salt and water for 8 hours or longer. When charged, the battery converts saltwater into acid and base and reverses the process when discharged. The company is preparing to launch its fourth pilot battery in Delft later this autumn. The strategic acquisition of Bugs Business, which will continue to operate as an independent organization, enables Roundcube Holding to expand its leadership in the insurtech sector with innovative solutions in the front-office domain. PhotonVentures closes round for its fund at € 75m
PhotonVentures, the deep tech venture capital fund focused on startups and scale-ups developing solutions with photonic chips, has closed its second fundraising round of over €15 million, bringing the fund’s total to the targeted €75 million. The fund targets essential applications in data transmission, health diagnostics, and smart sensor systems, while also aligning with major global trends such as AI, AR, and VR. Private and strategic investors, together with the support of BOM (Brabant Development Agency), Oost NL, TNO, and the University of Twente, made this funding round possible. Methaplanet raises EUR 6M
Methaplanet, an innovative scale-up focused on preparing and optimizing agricultural waste streams to enhance their utilization in biogas plants, has completed a €6M investment round led by ABP, with backing from EIT InnoEnergy and business angels. Methaplanet makes energy pellets from manure that contains a lot of straw, which can be used to produce biogas more efficiently. Olym advised lead investor ABP on this investment round.
Intrinsic ID acquired by Synopsys
Synopsys, Inc. (Nasdaq: SNPS) has acquired Intrinsic ID, a leading provider of Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) IP used in the design of system-on-chips (SoCs). Intrinsic ID is a spin-out of Royal Philips Electronics. We advised the company and its selling shareholders including Prime Ventures and Robert Bosch Venture Capital.
Convious secures Series A funding extension
Attractions management platform innovator Convious has received an additional $9 million of Series A funding to support its next development phase. This has been secured by venture capital and private equity firm Wille Finance, with the participation of Orbit Capital, and existing investors. The extension of the round brings the total value of the Series A to $20 million, in combination of equity and debt. We advised Wille Finance.
